SD-WAN

SD-WAN reached an inflection point in 2019 as enterprises — driven by equipment replacement cycles, increased reliance on the cloud and software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications, and the promise of reduced costs — have adopted the technology.

SD-WAN adoption is poised for liftoff, with IDC is predicting revenues in the space will exceed $5 billion by 2023, and the market’s meteoric growth has lead Avant Communications to declare SD-WAN the most disruptive technology of 2019.

Meanwhile stiff competition in the incredibly crowded SD-WAN market has forced vendors to take steps to differentiate themselves. At last count, the SD-WAN market had more than 60 vendors vying for a piece of the pie.

While there are literally dozens upon dozens of SD-WAN vendors vying for a piece of the pie, the technology has only just recently reached maturity.

Aryaka’s latest “State of the WAN” report stated that more than half of enterprises are poised to make the switch from tradition WAN networks to SD-WAN in the coming years. Of the 795 IT and network practitioners surveyed in the report, just 12% of those surveyed by Aryaka were in the process of deploying an SD-WAN while 19% reported having completed their deployment. However, 48% were in the process of gathering information in preparation for a deployment, while 17% were actively evaluating vendors.
