IT Administrator

IT Administrator Career Path
You will ideally have a Bachelor’s Degree in a field such as Computer Science, Information System Management, Information Technology or Computer Engineering. Most employers expect candidates to have at least three years’ experience in the IT field. It’s also normal for new IT administrators to embark on further training which means certificates and proof of training may also be required.

Obviously, you’ll also need qualifications in the IT systems you’re looking to manage. The most widely used technologies in business tend to be Cisco, Oracle and Microsoft so you should look to get qualifications in them. Examples of these qualifications include Cisco Certified Network Professional, Cisco Certified Network Associate and Microsoft Certified System Administrator.

You’ll also need to keep up to date with all the latest developments in your IT field as it is a sector that is constantly evolving.
